News release from BID – Milton
(Milton, MA) The Board of Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton announced today that its president, Joseph V. Morrissey, will be stepping down, effective December 31, 2012. Mr. Morrissey will be succeeded on an interim basis by Doris Sinkevich, who currently serves as BID-Milton’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer.
Mr. Morrissey served as Milton Hospital’s vice president of financial services from 1988 until 2003, when he was named president. A twenty-year employee of the hospital, Mr. Morrissey was responsible for guiding BID-Milton through a successful affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which was formalized in January, 2012. In addition, Mr. Morrissey presided over a significant improvement in BID-Milton’s quality and patient satisfaction scores, and led the hospital through a well-received renovation and expansion of its facilities.
“Mr. Morrissey has been an excellent steward of BID-Milton during his tenure as president, skillfully guiding us through our affiliation in a way that allowed us to continue to keep our autonomy and focus on providing excellent care in our community,” said Michael Brady, Chairman of the BID-Milton Board of Directors. “With this transition complete, BID-Milton has entered a new phase of operations, which we both agree requires a different kind of leadership.”
“The Board is extremely grateful to Mr. Morrissey for his guidance through this process and for his fine work through more than two decades of service to this institution.”
The position of Interim President will be filled by Doris Sinkevich, who currently serves as BID-Milton’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer. Ms. Sinkevich joined BID-Milton as the Vice President of Patient Care and Quality/Chief Nursing Officer in early 2009, after serving in an interim role at the hospital as the Chief Nursing Officer. In April 2012, she was appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer. Ms. Sinkevich has worked as a CNO and COO in various acute care and behavioral health organizations in Massachusetts for over 25 years. In addition, she has worked as a consultant and interim executive in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The BID-Milton Board of Directors has appointed a search committee, headed by board member Tony Cichello, and will immediately embark on a national search.
“In this rapidly changing environment, we are committed to finding a leader who has expertise in community relations, physician recruitment, and is absolutely committed to community-based care,” Brady said. “BID-Milton occupies a unique place in the market, providing affordable, high-quality care in the community, and we believe that this strength will allow us to not only survive, but thrive, in today’s shifting healthcare landscape.”
