At the Friends of the Blue Hills (FBH) Annual Celebration, November 11 at Fuller Village, Representative Walter Timilty presented awards to Milton School Superintendent Mary C. Gormley, FBH trail maintenance leader Caleb Blankenship and Richard Thompson from Blue Hills Bank.
Ms Mary C. Gormley, Milton School Superintendent, received the Community Partnership Award for partnering with FBH to educate all fourth graders in Milton Public Schools about how to prevent Lyme disease. Two fifth grade students from Cunningham Elementary School, Anna Rull and Maeve Disandro, accepted the award on behalf of the school district. Anna and Maeve participated in the Future Community Problem Solvers last year. At the Annual Celebration, they demonstrated how they had learned to help prevent Lyme disease and learned to understand the environmental causes of the increase of Lyme disease in our communities.
Caleb Blankenship, a Milton native, was recognized for dedicating 5 years to maintaining the trails in the Blue Hills. Mr. Blankenship chairs the trail maintenance efforts at the Friends of the Blue Hills, coordinating volunteers, leading events and training new leaders.
Richard Thompson, Vice President of Blue Hills Bank, was honored as the 2012 Friends for the Blue Hills Corporate Partner. The Blue Hills bank sponsored the Cool Summer Fest at Houghton’s Pond for three years. At this summer’s first Summer Fest, hundreds of people enjoyed live music, crafts and games at this year’s Cool Summer Fest this year.
