News release from First Parish of Milton
The Caring Committee of the First Parish of Milton will receive an award for their efforts on behalf of cancer survivors at the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship’s (NECCS). The Lorin Lavador Personal Caregiver of the Year Award honors those who have provided outstanding care and support during the course of treatment or illness.
The Caring Committee responds with compassion to the expressed needs and concerns of First Parish community members. They recognize the ways in which all of us are connected with one another and encourage others to be aware of those connections, as well. They offer hot meals, transportation, childcare, household help, friendly visits and phone calls to cancer survivors and others in need.
The Caring Committee is the organization center for a culture of caring that permeates the larger congregation. The Rev. Molly Housh Gordon says, “A Caring Congregation is one that creates an intentional culture of care in its own ranks and also takes that caring culture out into the wider world.” At First Parish, all are supported and empowered to become agents of loving care in their own lives and beyond.
The Lorin Lavador Personal Caregiver of the Year Award will be presented at the annual NECCS Awards and Cancer Survivorship Celebration Luncheon Saturday, November 3rd. NECCS exists to educate, advocate for and empower those whose lives have been affected by cancer in the New England region.
