The first movie in the Milton Public Library’s film series called “Segregated Worlds” to help celebrate “Milton Reads” and To Kill A Mockingbird will be shown on Thursday, October 11th. The film is a documentary (unrated) called “Hey, Boo!: Harper Lee and ‘To Kill A Mockingbird'” and will be hosted by Milton middle school teacher Jeff Stoodt.
This 2010 production celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the novel, and it is, as Mark Feeney put it in The Boston Globe, “like a meeting of Oprah’s Book Club.” He calls it a “reverently chipper” film. Oprah Winfrey, Wally Lamb, Lee Smith, and Scott Turow are among the media and literary commentators on the book. Although the author didn’t grant an interview, her friends and 90-year-old sister did. The movie also features interviews with personnel who made the famous movie of the novel. This film will be screened at 6:30 and a trivia quiz with comments will be at 6:15 in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the library. This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library, and is free and open to the public. The library is located at 476 Canton Avenue and for more information, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian.
