During their Annual Meeting at Reebok’s Canton Headquarters on June 28, members of the Neponset River Watershed Association recognized the Copeland Family Foundation for their support of a wide variety of projects to restore local waterways and wildlife over the last 16+ years.
In announcing the award, Ian Cooke, the Association’s Executive Director, emphasized the unique importance of having a local foundation partner like the Copeland Family Foundation that has an ongoing institutional interest in improving the quality of life for residents of Milton and neighboring towns.
Each year at its Annual Meeting, the Association recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to advancing the Association’s mission to protect and restore the Neponset River, its tributaries and surrounding watershed lands for the enjoyment of local families.
The Association also recognized Ale Echandi, Natural Resource Specialist with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation for her contribution to controlling Purple loosestrife, an invasive exotic plant that had taken over sensitive wetland habitats along the Neponset River to the detriment of native wildlife. The Association also highlighted the efforts of more than 300 volunteers who served as “Beetle Ranchers” over the last five years to help implement the Purple loosestrife control program.
