Injured 4th of July puppy named for troopers who protected him

This is Trooper. The Milton Animal Control Officer, Nancy Bersani, received a call from the State Police barracks in Milton on the 4th of July asking for assistance. A puppy had been found limping in the middle of a road that cuts through the Blue Hills. When ACO Bersani arrived a good Samaritan – who fittingly on the 4th of July was named Liberty – had stopped and picked the puppy up and called the police. Sadly there were many other people who saw the puppy in distress who just drove around the young dog.

The State Police troopers came and immediately took care of the pup. The dog – now named Trooper in their honor – was kissing their faces even though his back leg was dangling. Dr. Joseph from Canton Veterinary Hospital stabilized the leg and gave him much needed pain meds. The x-rays the next morning showed an awful break and it was near the growth plate so surgery could not wait. Last night Trooper
was brought to Tufts Emergency Center in Grafton for surgery today. The surgery alone is costing $5,000.

This little guy is only 5 to 6 months old and has a sweet and loving personality. He deserves every chance and we intend to give him that chance. We are putting out this appeal to ask if anyone has any information on how he ended up injured on Chickatawbut Road. Also, donations to help with the cost of Trooper’s surgery and rehabilitation can be sent to Milton Animal League 181 Governor Stoughton Lane Milton, MA 02186 Please help us help Trooper. Thank You.
