Tucker finishes FIRST in Math Sprint Contest

by Frank Schroth

The Tucker Elementary School took first place in the nationwide Study Island Challenge, a math sprint contest sponsored by Archipelago Learning. They competed against schools from across the country in the elementary category. There were 154 schools from 22 states that took part; but they were not a match for Tucker.

Study Island is a computer based program that provides instructional reinforcement in a variety of subject areas. The competition, in this case mathematics, involved successfully completing as many problems as possible within a set time. Tucker students answered 178,771 questions correctly. The average number of correct answer per student was 706.6! Whoa!

Good work Tucker! To celebrate the achievement the school held a party with leis, refreshments, and a dose of nice weather.

The Tucker is not a large school but it has a large heart.  As Marcia Uretsky,, Principal of Tucker noted, “Tucker students were determined to win! We feel like the ‘little engine’ that could– AND DID!
