MHS Bulletin for 05.06.09

  • Congratulations to the new officers of the Asian Culture Club for 2009-2010: President-Shelby Poon, Vice Pres-Andrew Tsang, Secretary Nicole Trang, Treasurer: Shirley Ngai.
  • Seniors: Your guidance counselor has a new listing of colleges still accepting applications.
  • Advanced Placement Exams are underway.  Students taking exams are reminded that they must bring a #2 pencil and a ballpoint pen on the day of their test, and that cell phones are NOT allowed in the testing room.  Students scheduled to take morning exams should report to the testing location by 7:45 and students taking an afternoon exam should eat at first lunch and report to the testing location by 11:45.  Students who arrive late will NOT be allowed to sit for the exam.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  All students will report to the library for testing except for Music Theory. Today, students will take Calculus in the morning.  Students taking AP Exams are expected to attend school the full day, and will only be excused from classes missed which take place during their exam.

  • There will be a very brief SADD meeting in Room 305 immediately after school.
  • Attention!  Anyone who missed the Poetry Jam this weekend can still get a copy of the Anthology of all the poems in the show, including Princesse’s original works.  They are available for $5 in the main office or in room 211 before and after school.  Proceeds will go to a summer camp scholarship for Saraphina Revelus.
  • Any Juniors who purchased prom tickets must pick up tickets and information by the end of the day today.  Students going to the prom must be in school all day Friday.
  • Step Squad will practice today.
  • Community Service: Milton Hospital is looking for junior volunteers. Call the hospital        at 617 696-4600 x1199.  Pine Tree Brook is looking for volunteers to assist residents with assorted tasks there. Please contact Mr. Connor at 617 698-2403.  Two to three students needed for Saturday Tennis program now underway at Kelly Field from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.  No tennis skills needed.   • Senior Prom tickets will be on sale through Friday, May 15 in Ms. Yifru’s room (116) before and after school for $55 per person, cash, checks payable to Milton High School.
  • Seniors:  If you have Book Money Obligations, please see Mrs. Kelly in the main office with your checks as soon as possible.  Also, for those of you who have Outstanding Library Obligations, you must see Mrs. Ronan at the Circulation Desk before school, Monday-Friday, or after school Monday-Thursday 2:19-2:40.
  • Attention Seniors: Caps & Gowns are in! You can pay for your cap and gown in Ms McDonough’s Room (118). The cost is $20 until May 8th; it will go up $5 a week after that.
  • Are you interested in playing Field Hockey this fall? If so, come to a brief meeting after school today (room 121). We will discuss the NIKE field hockey camp which is being held at Milton High School this summer. See Coach Kreuzer if you can’t make the meeting.
  • Ultimate Frisbee will be playing on the lower fields at 2:30 today.
  • The Observer will have a meeting today.  All members must attend to plan next year’s editors.  If you don’t go, you do not have a say.
  • Photography Club meeting after school on Thursday. We will discuss and show pictures from the Arboretum photo shoot. Bring new pictures.  New members welcome.
  • The GSA will be sponsoring a Day of Silence on Friday.  Students may take a vow of silence to commemorate the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.  GSA members will be distributing stickers Friday morning to those who would like to participate at the main entrance and at the field house entrance.
  • The Poetry Club will be meeting this Friday after school in Room 211. We will have our weekly open mike. New members are always welcome. Come hear your peers share original
  • verse. Come share your own. Jam poets bring your anthologies for signing.
  • Get ready to board the international flight of fashion this Saturday at 7:00 pm!  Boarding passes will be on sale for the Fashion Show at all 3 lunches.
  • In partnership with Boston University’s Dept of Archaeology, the Wakefield Estate will host a summer hand-on archaeological excavation high school students at the historic Wakefield Estate in Milton. Participants will work side by side with archaeologists from BU. The field school will take place in two 2-week sessions: June 15–26 and July 6-17. Please call the Wakefield Estate, 617-333-0924.  Application deadline May 15.
