A field of 100 young runners are expected to take part in Girl Scout Troop 74134’s first Milton Kids Road Race on Sunday, May 20 in Cunningham Park, 75 Edge Hill Rd, Milton.
“Kids ages 4-14 years old are all welcome to participate. The race is to promote health and well-being for all kids. We are raising money to help refurbish the scout house and go on our annual camping trip,” said Nora Kleiman, Katie Biagiotti and Mayu Joiner, members of the organizing troop.
The registration fee is $15 in advance, $20 on race day. The 2.2 mile race will begin at 11 a.m. at Cunningham Park. Runners who choose to register that day should arrive between 10 and 10:45 a.m. The race will be held rain or shine and every child who participates will receive a goody bag and a ribbon.
The course will take runners west on Edge Hill Road and south onto Fullers Lane. The path continues through Cunningham Park, and back on to Edge Hill. The loop will be run twice. Neither Edge Hill nor Fullers will be closed to traffic, but traffic is expected to be light and the course will be monitored by police and volunteers.
More information, including a map of the course, can be found at www.miltonkidsroadrace.com.
The race also is on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/MiltonKidsRoadRace, where updates and info will be posted. People may contact Ami Joiner at amijoiner@gmail.com with any questions.
The goal of the event is to promote health and fitness for children, while supporting Girl Scout Troop 74134’s dedication to Cunningham Park and the Milton Girl Scout House. Proceeds from the Milton Kids Road Race will benefit the Milton Girl Scout House and pay for educational programing for the troop.
