Update: The driver of the stolen car that crashed on Randolph Avenue died of his injuries.
Yesterday a post on Facebook from the Milton Police Department alerted residents that Randolph Avenue was closed between Centre and Brook due to a bad accident early yesterday afternoon. Evidently, a woman in Randolph stopped at a store there and didn’t turn off her engine. So another person, seeing an unlocked car with the motor running, hopped in and drove it away.
The police were notified. They located the suspect and attempted to block him off near St. Elizabeth’s. Then the driver did something dumber than leaving an unlocked car running with no one in it. He didn’t stop for the police. He sped off, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a tree at the Mary Lane playground. The car isn’t going to be driven again by its rightful owner or anyone else. The driver was taken to the hospital. No one else was hurt.
