At the last meeting of the School Committee several teams appeared before the committee. There were three amazing groups. The Wildcat Hockey team gave the entire community a great deal of fun and excitement. They played a season with skill and class. Coach Noonan, sporting a mohawk haircut, and some of the players appeared before the committee to thank them for their support and accept the congratulations of the committee.
The committee went on to also congratulate the Milton High LifeSmarts team which is going to the national (that’s national!) competition. They won the state championship and will be heading to Philadelphia for the nationals on April 21st. LifeSmarts is a contest that tests consumer information. Each member has an area of expertise such as finance, health etc. You can find a list of all finalist here. Congratulations and good luck to Coach: Paul Arenburg, Asst. Coach: Nancy Mikels, and the team: Captain: Mona Yuan, Jack Caljouw, Aaron Chiu, Patrick Kelly, & Devon Stanley.
And then there was the robotics team: Jonathan Maher, Quentin Brown, Connor Bryne, Patrick Kelly, David Collins, Rafael Ramos, Tue-Quan Dang, Yusuf Solomon, and Albert Enyedy. They are coached by Marilyn Decker. They too qualified for and entered the MA State Tournament in Andover where they came in 6th out of 24 teams. Great stuff! They built this robot that was remotely controlled (don’t ask me how) and pushed around a bowling ball and did heaven only knows what else.
One characteristic that was clearly shared by all three groups was an unmistakable camaraderie and sense of team. As Superintendent Gormley remarked, “It’s not only what you have done. . . it’s the kind of people you’ve become.”
