Susan M. Galvin has announced her candidacy for the position of Town Clerk in Milton. Having served as Assistant Town Clerk under James Mullen since May 2011, Galvin is confident that she is the best qualified candidate for the job.
Born and raised in Milton, Galvin, 46, is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in Business Administration. She was hired in Milton as the Senior Administrative Clerk in August 2010 and was promoted within nine months to the post of Assistant Town Clerk. Prior to working for the town, she was Vice President of Business Development at BSM Express Courier in Braintree. She also worked at Kelley and Rege Properties for a number of years before that.
According to Galvin, she is the only candidate who has the experience necessary to be effective in the job from day one. “I have assisted in administering four elections, preformed the functions as Town Clerk at the Special Town Meeting in January, implemented a new dog licensing program, and am well versed in the new state system for births,” Galvin said. “Additionally, this past January, I had the opportunity to attend the Massachusetts Town Clerks’& City Clerks’ winter conference in Sturbridge during which I attended workshops on elections and the state’s new vital records system. I already have a good sense of what the job entails,” Galvin added. “I have a good relationship with the staff and the Selectmen and look forward to implementing some changes that will make the Clerk’s office even more transparent, efficient and customer friendly.”
Galvin recently had a taste of the new job with the primary election on March 6. Since the town went through redistricting, several precincts had new polling places, creating a challenge ensuring voters knew the new locations. Galvin hopes to be the one in charge come November. “Milton has exceptionally high voter turnout, which is one of the many reasons why I love this town.” Galvin said. She is also looking forward to this year’s big celebration. “I hope to be a part of the next 350 years in Milton, honoring our heritage by ensuring the integrity of our elections and the preservation of our vital records.”
