Denis Keohane, current member of the Milton School Committee, is announcing his candidacy for the Milton Board of Selectmen.
A 20-year resident of Milton, Denis was born in Kinsale, Ireland. He came to America at the age of 21 seeking a better life. A chance meeting with Tom Flatley, who became his mentor, launched Denis’s highly successful career in real estate.
“I am blessed by the opportunities this country gave me,” Denis says, “and by my selection of Milton as a place to live.”
Years of hard work—first as a contractor, and then as a developer—prevented Denis from fulfilling his dream of pursuing further education. Then, in his thirties, Denis decided to go back to school, and received his college degree just before turning 40. This experience reinforced his strong belief in the importance of education, which in turn led to a successful run for the Milton School Committee His hope was to contribute his professional knowledge of real estate at a time when the school department and the rest of the town were setting up a new department to manage all town facilities.
Denis considers that effort a success, and gives the Milton Public Schools high marks overall: “I must say my experience on the School Committee has convinced me the schools are very well run and can look forward to a great future. But I’m concerned about other issues we face as a town—not all of which are fully appreciated. We need to do a better job of anticipating issues and dealing with them on a proactive basis. Getting ahead of the curve gives us the best chance of shaping Milton’s future in the way we want. I look forward to discussing these things during the campaign.”
Denis lives on Big Blue Drive with his wife Mary, and daughters Emily 18 (attends Northeastern University), Julia 17, and Olivia 15, who attend the Milton Public Schools.
