The Milton Public Schools were recently notified that the Pierce Middle School was the recipient of the Bronze award, given by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Milton Food Service Director Jackie Morgan, and the Pierce Food Service staff were recognized at a recent meeting of the Milton School Committee the recent citation by the USDA’s “The Healthier US School Challenge.”

“I have to give a huge thank you to the Food Service staff at the Pierce Middle School and the administration and faculty,” said Ms. Morgan. “This was a team effort and the entire school worked together to achieve this major accomplishment.”

Pierce was one of only 10 schools in Massachusetts to achieve this status, and among only 1 percent of schools in the nation who qualified. This is a voluntary initiative established in 2004 to recognize those schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that have created healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity.
