Last night the Milton Foundation for Education applied their event planning skills to thank the major donors who step up to the plate in support of the organization’s mission to enhance the education and expand the opportunities for Milton school children. The Elliott family hosted the event, serving great appetizers, amazing desserts, and good company. And sports writer Bob Halloran was on hand to say a few words.
“Thank you, Thank you, Thank you” – Leroy Walker
Leroy Walker of the School Committee was one of several school officials who spoke and thanked the gathering for their incredibly generous support. He noted that when people look to move to a commmunity they do not ask about the Police Department or DPW. “They ask about the schools.”
, and Elva Proctor Margaret Eberhardt, current President of the MFE, mc’d the event and introduced the co-chairs for the coming year’s gala, Laura Conway and Meg Kaster. Congratulating the success of last year’s event Conway said, “We want to ride that wave of success.” The coming year’s event will key off last year’s casual theme. The co-chairs introduced “The Big Beach Ball” which will take place at the Quincy Marriott on March 10th (go pencil it in your calendar now). Two Milton alumni will be honored at the event: Lamar Reddicks, an MHS basketball stand out and current Athletic Director at Milton Academy, and Elva Proctor, MHS class of ’33, who at 93 years young is still very active in community affairs.
“I owe everything to my education.” – Bob Halloran
The featured speaker, Bob Halloran, an accomplished writer and sportscaster, spoke of his books and sports, including the current Penn State scandal. “If Penn State continues doing what it is doing, they are telling us he [Sandusky] is guilty.” Halloran, whose book “Irish Thunder” was a primary source for the film The Fighter was humorous, insightful, and opinionated. Mr. Halloran took questions and was warmly applauded – Mr. Halloran, who said, “I owe everything to my education.”
