Come on kids – get healthy! Milton Hospital has announced the launch of its Community Health Walk “Summer Fun” Contest, a fun program designed to teach children from kindergarten through fifth grade about the health benefits of being active, while offering some great summer prizes. Students in grades K-5 will have a chance to win great prizes while learning about important health facts.
Participation in Milton Hospital’s 2nd Annual Community Health Walk will encourage students and their families to embrace active lifestyles, take part in a valuable community-building activity, and, if applicable, help students meet community service requirements.
“The walk and contest provides students a chance to raise awareness of the importance of staying active while learning about the many benefits of walking,” said Jason Bouffard, public relations manager at Milton Hospital.
Prior to the walk, hospital staff will post daily health-related facts on the hospital’s website, focusing on the benefits of walking. Participating students will read this information each day, as they will be asked to answer questions related to the facts over the course of the walk. Students will form teams and register for the walk. On Saturday, June 18th, 2011, the day of the walk, a series of questions will be displayed throughout the walk route, to quiz students on the health facts. Using a quiz sheet provided at the start of the walk, students will attempt to correctly answer each question they encounter. After the walk, quizzes will be graded for accuracy. The team with the highest percentage of correct answers will win fun summer prizes! Each participating K-5 student on the winning team will receive a prize package that will include summer fun prizes that encourage outdoor fun.
Participation in the walk is free for kids and $10 for adults over 18. To find out more information, call 617-313-1588 or visit the hospital’s website atwww.miltonhospital.org/walk2011 and download registration forms.
