Milton High competes in Mooses on the Malden Regatta

A small bit of MHS history was made on Sunday, May 22nd, when Milton High had two boats entered in the Mooses on the Malden Regatta. It was the first time Milton rowed in competition. Other schools included Somerville High, Cambridge Rindge and Latin, Malden High School (the host), Holyoke, and Westford.Yarmoughth and Waynflete trailored down from Maine for the event.

Milton had a novice-8 girls’ boat and a boys’ novice-4 in competition and though they didn’t medal, the coaches were thrilled with the team’s performance. ?hese kids have been training on the water for only three weeks. They are going up against seasoned teams. Frankly, for a first outing, they rowed great, said head coach Tim Huth.

Mike Riciutti, parent and board member of the Friends of Milton Crew, also gave a tip of the hat to the parents of the athletes, remarking, ?ook at this! Isn’t this fantastic?as he looked over the food tent that the parents had put together, complete with team banner. ?his show of support for the team has been just great.”

The team will be wrapping up its season this week and capping it off with another regatta. They will race in the Massachusetts Public School 11th Spring Championship on the Merrimac River in Lowell on Sunday, May 29th. All are welcome to come and cheer the team on!
