Yesterday the Governor walked around Turner’s Pond on his way to the Glover Elementary School. He was participating in Massachusetts Wald & Bike to School Day. This special day is part of the Commonwealth’s Safe Routes to School Program which promotes walking and bicycling to school in order to improve student’s health, reduce traffic congestion and keep the air cleaner.
The Governor had a lot of company on his stroll over to Glover. Secretary of Transportation Jeffrey Mullan joined the Governor (both are Milton residents) and they were accompanied by Eric Ask of the Safe Routes Program (also a Milton resident).
Mullan commented, “Our commitment to the Safe Routes to School program is part of a larger effort to build safer and more livable communities for the residents of Massachusetts. Walking or biking to school is a great way to stay healthy and achieves the goals of our GreenDOT initiative and Healthy Transportation Compact.”
School officials were outside Glover to greet the students who arrived on foot and on wheels along with the Governor who also had one of his dogs in tow (or maybe it was the other way around).
