Letter: Funding for Milton’s Roads

from the office of Senator Joyce

Dear Neighbor,

I’m pleased to announce that legislation was passed yesterday that apportions $621,708 for road and bridge improvements for Milton. This funding level represents a 29% increase over the funding apportioned to Milton during the current fiscal year. This funding is especially important this year because of the extreme weather we had this winter, and the resulting poor road conditions.

The bill authorizes $200 million for the maintenance and upkeep of municipal roads and bridges across the Commonwealth. This represents a 29% increase over the funding dispersed for the same purpose last year. In addition to helping municipal officials repair your local roads, these state funds also help create jobs. Statewide, we expect about 3200 construction projects as a result of this funding.

As Chair of the Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, I am particularly pleased that this bill does not add to our projected borrowing for the year, as the cost of other capital projects across the state has decreased due to increased competition. We were able to reallocate an additional $45 million in statewide funds toward local roads and bridges, without worsening our debt burden.

Thanks for allowing me to work for you, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.

Brian
