Paul Yovino recently announced his Candidacy for Milton Library Trustee.
” I will work to fulfill the Library Mission statement: promote the love of learning; make accessible the diversity of human culture and ensure that it remains an information resource for the community “, Yovino said.
To insure Milton Library remains “on the cutting edge” in library science Yovino is a strong advocate of digital technology. “The future will be a library without walls; as near as your home computer or IPad.” Still, he intends to preserve the outstanding services the library provides within its walls and expand them where budgets allow.
Paul Yovino believes he can bring a new dimension to the position. ” My background in broadcasting gave me the skills to create and produce, “This Old/New Library ” a Milton Access cable program which followed and documented the construction of the new Milton library.
A member of Milton’s Broadband Monitoring Committee Yovino worked with Comcast to provide local cable live feeds or connections in the new library to expand its reach beyond its walls. ” These new live feeds allow us to cablecast from the Library. For example, it is now possible to interview and cablecast authors on book tours. The authors benefit knowing their books will get additional publicity on cable and the public benefits in seeing authors who may pique their interest to follow-up and read. This is all part of my proposal to make our Library the cultural hub of Milton.”
Finally, Yovino proposes to establish a Milton Library writing center to foster the love and skill of writing. He believes the writing center should be named “The Marjorie Jeffries Writing Center”. ” Jeffries has dedicated many years to the Milton Library and formed a similar writing group in the limited space of the old library. Now is the time to make this writing center as an integral part of the library and honor her many contributions.”
If elected, Paul Yovino’s goal will be to preserve what makes the Milton Library unique and to expand its mission beyond its walls.
