Temple Shalom announced today that it has entered into a purchase and sale agreement to sell their property on Blue Hill Avenue to Concord Baptist Church of Boston. They state that “It is expected that the sale will be finalized in June of 2011.”

Temple Shalom put the property up for sale last summer after Town Meeting voted down an article that would have allowed a zoning overlay. The Temple was seeking a mixed use development that would let them build a new, smaller temple on the site along with commercial properties. Their current structure is in need of repair and no longer meets the Temple’s needs.  The congregation, though currently growing, is not as large as it once was.

The Temple has reiterated a committment to staying here in Milton. The sale of the property will provide the capital needed to establish a new home that is aligned with the congregation’s size and needs. Details about the potential buyer are not known.
