The new doodad at Town Hall

You may have noticed that there is a digital display device affixed to town hall just inside the left side entrance. It is an effort on the part of town officials to comply with the open meeting law. You can learn more about the open meeting law that went into effect last July here.

One of the requirements is that meeting notices be available to the public in a timely fashion. This thingamajig does that. But you need to be patient.

It displays notices in a slide show type format. Displaying each notice for a set period of time before flipping to the next one. The drawback is if you want to check on tonight’s Board of Selectmen’s agenda say, you could have a bit of a wait before it shows up on the screen. That’s a bit of a hassle – but did you kow you can also scroll through all ~50 pages of this in the comfort of your own home? You can, assuming you have a computer and know where to look.

The notices are posted as one large PDF file on the Town Clerk’s web page. You can find them here. You can control the scrolling. No, it is not searchable, and it is not in the calendar section, but it’s all there. That’s good.

Here is a snippet of the file for tonight’s Selectmen’s meeting.
