The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently recognized the Tucker Elementary School and Milton High School as having earned an ENERGY STAR rating.
The Tucker building, located at 187 Blue Hill Parkway and Milton High, located at 25 Gile Road, are now listed on the ENERGY STAR registry at www.energystar.gov/buildinglist. Buildings that earn the EPA’s ENERGY STAR rating use 35 percent less energy and generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings across the nation.
The good news was shared with the Milton Public Schools’ Facilities Subcommittee, Milton, Mass.— The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently recognized the Tucker Elementary School and Milton High School as having earned national ENERGY STAR rating.
The good news was shared during a recent meeting of the Facilities Subcommittee, which includes Milton Schools Facilities Director Bill Ritchie, Milton Schools HVAC technician Jim Egan, School Business Adminstrator Matt Gillis, and committee members Rick Malmstrom, along with John Kibbee, Joseph Murphy and School Committee members Lynda-Lee Sheridan and Denis Keohane.
Of the four K-12 schools in Massachusetts to have earned the ENERGY STAR label in 2010, two are Milton Public School buildings.
“We are very proud of the work that has been done to improve the efficiency of our buildings,” said Matthew Gillis, business administrator for the Milton Public Schools. “Not only does this save a substantial amount of money for the town, it reduces greenhouse gases and helps to conserve energy.”
Bill Ritchie has been working on energy conservation measures for all the districts schools for well over five years now. The Facilities Subcommittee goal is to continue in their efforts in achieving the ENERGY STAR rating for the remaining four schools in the district.
A presentation will be made to the Milton School Committee on Wednesday, December 8 at 7 pm to provide more details about the new ENERGY STAR rating.
