Forbes House Museum seeks interns

The Forbes House Museum is seeking energetic college undergraduate and graduate students for participation in a new Internship Program. Interns are needed in the areas of museum education, collections, marketing and social media, and development.

Interns will work directly with the executive director to research and implement educational programs and events; accession works in the museum collection and library; research and implement new development programs in an effort to build new relationships throughout New England; and create new marketing and social media initiatives. Additionally, interns are welcome to conduct independent research on the Museum, a Greek revival mansion, and its collection, which includes holdings in American China Trade decorative arts, Chinese, American and European furniture and painting, President Lincoln memorabilia, and Forbes family history.

More specifically, the Museum has embarked on two projects in which interns are needed. In spring 2011, the Museum will launch a comprehensive marketing campaign for the China Trade Trail; interns are need to help assemble the campaign and gather related research. Interns can also assist in the research and planning of educational events commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Governor Thomas Hutchinson, the last royal governor of Massachusetts; the Museum is considering hosting a summer teacher’s institute, exhibits, and/or lectures.
