Plans uncertain for $1 million state infrastructure grant in Milton

A $1 million state infrastructure grant meant to connect two Milton business districts may no longer be available, after an unexpected state review.

The grant was part of $38 million in state funding promised for 26 projects in late 2012, all under the MassWorks Infrastructure Project banner. (Read the full story here.)

Education Secretary Matthew Malone

Matthew Malone, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, paid a visit to Milton High School yesterday morning. In his remarks to the admistration, staff, and students while on his tour he touched on all aspect of education from elementary through high school and all dimensions of the learning environment.

Andrea Gordon feted at Library Foundation’s annual literary gala

It was quite an evening for the Milton Public Library. The Milton Library Foundation hosted their annual fundraising event at Lombardo’s and several hundred turned out to demonstrate their support for the community institution. The evening featured a talk by renowned author Tom Perotta, a “Fund a need” auction in support of technology, and a tribute to Andrea Gordon. Ms. Gordon, a professional librarian, longtime trustee of the library, and founder of the Library Foundation is the first person to be so honored at this event.

Ah, the Mattapan trolley

In a piece titled, Marty Walsh On Improving Transportation, Parking In Boston, WBGH reporter Sarah Birnbaum discusses transportation access into Boston and challenges presented by T connections required to get where your going and the alternative – driving. The Mattapan line is featured and at the end of the piece Milton resident Jay Fundling points out the special charm the trolly’s short trip to Ashmont provides. You can hear and read the story here.
