Auditions to be held for “The Importance of Being Ernest”

The Milton Players will hold auditions for the drama, “The Importance of Being Ernest” on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 – 9:00pm at Cunningham Hall 75 Edge Hill Road.

Auditions “will consist of cold readings from the script. British accent encouraged, but not required.” You can find out more information along with character descriptions at their web site here.

Artane Band Live!

The Irish youth music ensemble, The Artane Band, will be performing at Milton High School Thursday September 3rd @ 7:00 pm.


The Artane Band known as the “biggest little band in the world” was founded in 1872 and is a “household” name in Ireland where they frequently play at sports events at Coke Park.

Brian Kelly, host of  Talk of the Town recently interviewed Mary Swanton of Milton who is coordinating the Artane Band’s visit to the US along with Chief Wells and Seamus Mulligan who has an Irish music program on WROL. The concert will also feature Pauline Wells, the Boston Police Gaelic Column, and the Milton High School String Ensemble.

Tickets are available at the Irish Cottages in Braintree and West Roxbury and also at Greenhill’s Bakery in Dorchester.

Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America – info session on half marathon

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America is holding an information meeting about Team Challenge; the Foundation’s half marathon training and fundraising program,. This August, the New England team will begin training locally for the Rock N Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon on December 6, 2009. Lower Mills Evening Paddle

Paddle up to the falls at the old Baker Chocolate mills and out into the salt marshes. Paddling experience required. Co-sponsored by Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition. Advance registration is required for all canoe trips to ensure there are enough canoes for all participants.

Playoff Baseball: Milton vs Bridgewater for South Title

Milton will take on Bridgewater this afternoon for the Legion South title. Bridgewater battled back to win the most recent game between these two baseball powerhouses.

This will be a great game. Cross your fingers that the weather co-operates. Should the game be rained out, Bridgewater will take the title as they have won the most games within the bracket.

Art Workshop: Nature Sketching with Colored Pencil

Talented nature artist Anne Schmalz will introduce participants to sketching the natural world at this peaceful spot in Lower Mills. Supplies provided, bring your own folding chair.

Dawna Hammers to lead community music event

Dawna Hammers, songwriter, song leader, and music teacher will be leading a family “Drum Circle” event on Thursday July 30th from 6:00pm – 8:0pm at the Milton Town Green (525 Canton Avenue in front of Town Hall). No experience is necessary. Some drums and percussion instruments will be provided or you can bring your own.

There will also be an appearance by the renowned musician Otha Day who promotes community drumming throughout the state. All are welcome. In the event of rain, the concert will take place at the First Congregational Church.

Calling Fantasy Fans grades 3 and up!

Author Julie Hahnke blends fantasy with historical fiction in a dynamic format with illustrations that help tell the tale. She will share her new title The Grey Ghost as well as describing the research that goes into the creation of a fantasy world. Oh, and she’ll bring along her bagpipes and claymore! Children grades 3 and up are invited to this special event. Register in the Children’s Room beginning June 19.
