Forbes House Museum and Ireland’s Great Famine: Who Knows the Story? Part III

MyTownMatters and the Forbes House Museum are happy to offer a series of short stories and illustrations on Ireland’s Great Famine and its connection to Milton/Boston. Part I provided background information on Forbes House Museum’s association with the Famine. Part II introduced the illustrator, James Mahony (c. 1816- c.1859), hired by the Illustrated London News to document the Great Famine.

The Forbes House Museum has been collaborating since 2011 with scholars and civic groups from the United States and Ireland, researching Ireland’s Great Famine, which took place from 1845 to 1852.

Meeting: Board of Selectmen

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting on Thursday 12/18 at 7:00pm in the Cronin Conference Room at Town Hall. The agenda includes but is not limited to: approval of DPW budget, Memorandum of Understanding with the Milton Animal League, and 2015 Town Meeting Articles. You can find the full agenda here.

Board of Appeals continues Hendries hearing into 2015

While there may have been hope that the hearing on a comprehensive permit for the Hendries site would have been closed at last night’s session of the Boad of Appeals, it wasn’t. The hearing has been continued until January 15th at which time the board expects to obtain information needed regarding storm water management, close the hearing, and begin deliberations.

DPW Notice: Holiday Trash Collection

Please be advised that the new Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste collection for Christmas Day, Thursday December 25, 2014 will occur one day before on Wednesday December 24.

NO CHANGE for REGULAR Wednesday Collections.

Please Remember that if a holiday occurs on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday there will be regular collections for that week on Wednesday and Thursday, (NO DELAYS).

School Committee votes approval of $41 million budget

On December 11th the School Committee voted unanimously to approve a $41,094,500 budget for FY16. The budget was reviewed and discussed at length at a previous session (see related story here.). The budget is large and complicated but essentially there are 3 key factors.
