Goodbye Governor and thank you

There is a changing of the guard at the Massachusetts State House. Deval Patrick left the building last night and Governor elect Baker will enter today.

Deval Patrick of Milton was a great governor who did not play favorites among the communities of the Commonwealth. Deval Patrick, who said to B.U.’s graduating class last May:

. . . human intimacy still matters. That’s how we build trust, how we convey kindness and grace, how we love, how we heal the world.

NBA star Chris Herren to speak at MHS on addiction and recovery 1/15

Do you have teens at home? Then you won’t want to miss former Boston Celtics Chris Herren’s presentation on Thursday, January 15 at 6:30 pm at Milton High School. Chris will recount his rise to NBA stardom, fall into drug addiction and ultimate recovery. This program is free and presented by Milton Public Schools and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton.

DHCD rules against town’s affordable housing claim

In a letter dated December 31, 2014 to John Leaonard, Chair of the Board of Appeals, Aaron Gorstein of the Department of Housing and Community Development ruled that the town has failed to meet the burden of proof in its claim that 1.5% of geographic area has affordable housing. On behalf of the town Mr. Leonard sought DHCD approval for denial of a comprehensive permit for property at 711 Randoph Avenue to DHCD based on the town’s meeting the 1.5% criteria.

The Town of Milton DPW would like to inform residents of a Water Main break located at Lawrence Road and Elton Road. This was a totally unexpected event, and beyond our control. Water service may be interrupted in this area today 01/07/2015.

Lacrosse Information Night at Cunningham Hall tonight

Hearing on East Milton restaurant commences; board jurisdiction fuzzy

On December 30th, the Milton Planning Board opened a hearing for site plan approval of a restaurant being proposed by the Falconi Companies at the site of the old Milton Cinema. Site plan approval is required of the board because the proposal is altering a building greater than 800 square feet. The renovation includes adding windows that were not previously there. As Jeanne Schmidt Falconi noted in her introductory remarks, “One new window is the only reason we are here tonight.”

Water service may be interrupted in this area today 01/05/2015. Periods of rusty water or no water may be expected.
