Milton musters one hit in 3-0 loss to Needham

Yet Needham Post 14, behind a stellar pitching performance from starter Matt Dunn, defeated the District 6 East powerhouse, 3-0, in the first game of the best-of-three series in the opening round of the American Legion baseball playoffs. Legion Baseball playoffs begin: Milton top seed in District 6 playoffs

Despite summer weather that never seemed to cooperate, eight local teams have qualified for the American Legion baseball playoffs.
Milton Post 114, Braintree Post 86, Morrisette Post 294 and Holbrook Post 137 will compete in the District 6 playoffs. In District 10, Hingham Post 120, Hanover Post 149, Plymouth Post 40 and Whitman Post 22 will take the field in the postseason. (Read the full story here.)

Joseph Lynch is Milton’s new Director of Public Works
The town of Milton has seen quite a few personnel changes in the last year of so. We have a relatively new police chief adn town administrator and , a new fire chief, John Grant, just took over a couple of weeks ago from Chief Larson. Most recently, the Board of Selectmen unanimously selected Joseph Lynch to be the director of public works.
School cuts identified and town survey results posted

Milton seeks to combine water project with MWRA work

Milton officials have proposed combining water-main replacement projects to save the town $500,000.
State Rep. Walter Timilty, D-Milton, and Selectmen Chairman John Shields met with House Speaker Robert DeLeo to seek his support for the plan, which would include replacing a nearly century-old town water main. (Read the full story here.)
Planning Board posts results of town survey
The Milton Planning Board has posted the results of their recent survey asking residents for input on town wide planning.
They wrote up a synopsis of the results and also posted the raw results.

School Department details cuts in staff
The school department has cut the following full time equivalents from their staff:
- 6 teachers
- 1 professional staff
- 6 non-professional staff.
For a total of 13 FTEs and a savings of $549,000.
The high school will lose 2.5 FTEs, Pierce will lose 1.5 FTEs and the elementary schools will lose 9 FTEs. You can find the detailed breakdown from the school department here.
Joe Sloane, mountain biking enthusiast, to give workshops during LL Bean store opening celebration
Milton resident and mountain bike enthusiast Joe Sloane will be giving presentations at the upcoming opening celebration a new LL Bean store in Dedham.
The new L.L.Bean, one of the anchor stores at the new Legacy Place (web site here) is opening July 24th and will hold events all that week end (L.L.Bean web site here).
Joe will be giving a presentation “Great Local Mountain Bike Rides” every half hour from 7:00 – 9:00pm on Friday, July 24th. Sloane is a member of the New England Mountain Biking Association. He was awarded the L.L.Bean outdoor hero award last year for his dedication to preserving the outdoors. Joe was instrumental in establishing the Trailwatch program, a program that promotes safe and cooperative trail use at the Blue Hills. (read more here.)
