!Milton celebrates Milton!

Some reasons why Milton matters

Some reasons why Milton matters

It was all good fun.

No amount of rain was going to dampen the enthusiasm and joy of the folks who organized and the residents who attended Celebrate Milton!

It was just fantastic!

One gym was jammed with vendors and community organizations, another gym was filled with activities for kids, the cafeteria had FAME (Friends and Advocates of Music Education) serving a variety of meals and refreshments and this was also the venue for numerous community musical and dance ensembles.

We had a table and asked people to contribute their thoughts in words and pictures about why Milton Matters. Well – we filled up 4 banners worth of those thoughts. A couple are pictured here and are representative of the prides and love the community feels. French immersion, the blue hills, sports, the town’s parks all received mentions.

To view some additional pics of the day, please click on the “Continue reading . . .” link.

These include shots of residents who were awarded Community Builder Awards: Graham Strang & David Corbett who recruited and trained numerous young people in delivering support to the Milton Food Pantry, Beirne Lovely who has been in a variety of public service roles for longer than many of us have been alive (he is currently on the School Committee), Dr. Bob Chen, who has worked to improve the quality of science education (he was not on hand at time we took pics) and not the least, Lori Bilewicz,  President of the Board of Advisors for Celebrate Milton. Congratulations all and Yay Milton!

Towns getting tough on tax delinquents

from The Boston Globe

Struggling to make ends meet in the toughest economic climate in years, some communities south of Boston are taking a tougher stance against tax delinquents, whether they are behind on property taxes, water and sewer bills, or fees for trash collection.

Holbrook has adopted tougher guidelines on collecting property taxes, Milton has discovered that publicizing the names of delinquent property owners helps, and Randolph is collecting water and sewer bills with renewed vigor. And in some communities like Walpole, tax collections have actually increased, officials say. (Read the full story here.)
