An extraordinary day for the Commonwealth and for Milton

We of Milton, a small town that sits between the Neponset River and the Blue Hills, have a lot to love, a lot to be grateful for, and a lot to be proud of. But even for a town that was the home of Governors Belcher and Hutchinson, was the birthplace of President George H.W. Bush, and saw the writing of the Suffolk Resolves, Monday was an extraordinarily historic day.

First day hikes!

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will sponsor free “First Day” family hikes in 14 state parks across the Commonwealth on New Year’s Day, as a way to connect children and parents with the great outdoors even – or maybe especially – in winter.

Update – Two stories of local interest: MA to lose House seat & teachers pay tied to testing

There are two stories in the news this morning that will have a potentially significant impact at the local level.

Massachusetts is losing a congressional seat. The Globe reports “sets the stage for state lawmakers and Governor Deval Patrick to redraw congressional districts. The new map, which would be in place by the 2012 elections, could radically alter district boundaries.”

Milton man stung in Franklin drug seizure

Police in Franklin seized around $20,000 worth of cocaine and heroin from a Milton man now charged with drug trafficking after a Thursday sting operation, according to police. (Read the full story here.)

His ears almost seem too small for hearing aids, but at six months, James is already on his second pair and hearing more every day. “He outgrew the first set of moldings, so we got a bigger set,” said his mother, Laura, 29. “He loves having them in.
