The Temple Celebrates

Last Sunday evening Temple Shalom hosted a celebration perhaps tinged with a few tears. It was likely the last event to be held in the building that has been the Temple’s home for the last 65 years.

Architectural renderings of Hendries development

Connelly Construction, the firm redeveveloping the Hendries property, has retained Warren Daniel as architect for a new mixed use structure. Following are two of Mr. Daniel’s preliminary renderings.

The proposal is currently being held up while the Plannng Board and developer negotiate whether or not a large black oak that sits on the property should be factored into the development. (View related posts here.)

Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 03.04.11 (2) – DeWolfe developer does a 180

A couple of weeks ago the developers of the DeWolfe building, which has been acquired by a law firm, presented plans for renovation that were met with serious concerns by the neighbors. The building, which was built in the mid-1800s, sits in the Milton Historic district. The plans for expanding the building’s footprint and enlarging its overall size did not appear to acknowledge the historic legacy and setting. Hearing the neighbors concerns the developers went back to the drawing board.

MWRA owes Lower Mills answers – pronto

Fontbonne students win Globe art & writing awards

Julia Himmel ’13 flanked by twins Yutong and Yunan Xue

Fontbonne Academy’s Julia Himmel ’ 13 was awarded Honorable Mention in this year’s Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Two other students, international students from China, Yutong and Yunan Xue ’12, were also winners.

Mtg notes: Plan’g Brd 03.4.11 (1) – Developer calls on Jackson to recuse himself from Hendries deliberations

During last night’s open hearing on the Hendries property Steven Connelly of Connelly Construction read a sharply worded letter in which he called on Planning Board member Peter Jackson to recuse himself from the special permit process for 131 Eliot Street, stating that Mr. Jackson was “jeopardizing the integrity” of the board and that his conduct was “unbecoming” that of an elected official. Mr. Jackson said the request was “outrageous.”

Duffy withdraws from Selectmen’s race

The race for Board of Selectmen is now down to two.

At the beginning of this evening’s meeting of the Planning Board, Ed Duffy announced that he does not intend to pursue the open seat on the Board of Selectmen.
