Neighborhood group unites against Milton-Canton 40B

Ed. note – Interesting article that provides the perspective of Canton officials on proposed 40B on Brush Hill Road.

from The Canton Citizen

What do blue spotted salamanders, prehistoric stone tools, and the idyllic charm of a 100-year-old neighborhood have in common?

As far as a group of 12 families on the Canton-Milton border are concerned, all three would be seriously threatened if a large affordable housing development were permitted to move forward as planned under the state’s Chapter 40B Comprehensive Permit Act. (Read the full story here.)

At the last week’s meeting of the Board of Selectmen they may have given the impression, intended or not, that they were resigned to the development proposal from Mill Creek to build a large apartment complex on Brush Hill Road across from Fuller Village. That might account for last night’s spillover crowd at the Council on Aging that made it abudantly clear they opposed the development.

The Price of Development

from The Canton Citizen

Editor’s note: The following guest column, written by Hemenway Drive resident Denny Swenson, addresses a proposed 40B development on the Milton/Canton town line. The developer, Texas-based Mill Creek Residential Trust, is seeking to build 276 apartments on a 22-acre parcel on Brush Hill Road—across the street from the Fuller Village senior independent living community. Discussions underway regarding potential Brush Hill 40B development

by Frank Schroth

Mill Creek Residential, a real estate development firm that specializes in multi-family rental properties, has begun discussions with town officials regarding a 40B development on Brush Hill Road. It would be a first for Milton. The lot is approximately 22 acres and a shoe box shape with a narrow side facing Brush Hill Road near Fuller Village. The development being considered would consist of town houses and a larger denser structure toward the back of the property. All together they are looking at a total of 300 units.
