Calling All Plant and Pollinator Lovers – Wakefield Estate is having a Plug Sale!

The Wakefield Estate is starting what is hoped will become an annual tradition(like girl scout cookies!): a “plug” sale! The estate is offering native plugs for sale to members of local garden clubs and the public. A landscape plug is a plant that is almost as big as those you buy at fancy garden centers and is ready to take off and grow, but just hasn’t been put in a big pot with a marketing labels. It’s an excellent choice for wildlife habitat development, uses easily recyclable packaging and is more affordable.

There is a choice of two different 8 packs: Butterfly Mix or Woodland Mix. An 8 pack of plugs is $20. The plants in the packs were chosen because of their importance and value to pollinators and wildlife, as well as being great low maintenance additions to any garden. Each 8 pack includes 2 of each variety. The Butterfly Mix includes 2 Asclepias tuberosa or Butterfly Weed, 2 Nepata or Catmint, 2 Lobelia cardinalis – hummingbirds’ favorite, and 2 Penstemon Red Riding Hood. The Woodland Mix includes 2 each of: Marsh marigold, Tiarella or foamflower, Coreopsis or tickseed, and Wild Geranium. No substitutions are allowed. Supply is limited so order soon to insure availability.

All proceeds from the plug sale will support the Wakefield Estate’s efforts to plant native plant material for educational purposes. To order please email Debbie Merriam at dmerriam@comcast.net, or leave a message at 617-868-0257. Provide your name, phone number, email and the variety and the number of 8 packs. Pickups may be made during a garden club tour or during Dogwood Days June 14-21, 10 am-4 pm daily. Please make checks payable to the Wakefield Charitable Trust.
