Leonard Nimoy and Milton

by Frank Schroth

The recent edition of the Bike Milton newsletter alerted us to the fact that Leonard Nimoy, arguably the brightest star of Star Trek, used to live here in Milton. According to Bike Milton he lived in the area of Temple Shalom (now Concord Baptist Church).

Mr. Nimoy’s parents were Jews who emigrated from the Ukraine. We have been unable to locate much further information about is time in Milton. It makes sense and his father owned a barber shop in Mattapan. Mr. Nimoy is listed among Milton’s notable figures in the Wikipedia entry for Milton.

Leonard Nimoy was my cousin. His father Max and my grandfather, John Fleitman, owned their original barbershop together in the old West End of Boston.

I did meet him a couple of times, but knew his parents, Max & Dora well. Dora worked in Mattapan Square.
