Senator Joyce’s gifts raise concerns on ethics

They certainly stood out amid the more traditional gifts of homemade fudge and CVS gift cards that state senators typically swap during the holidays.

To Frank and my Milton Neighbors,

Here is the statement that I gave to the Globe concerning this matter, which I would like to share with you.

“I’m happy to confirm that in the spirit of friendship and following a longstanding tradition, I once again gave my Senate colleagues holiday gifts from a business in my district for which I paid the same amount as any other bulk purchaser, in full compliance with all state ethics guidelines.”

If any Milton resident has any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at my State House office at 617-722-1643, or at my home at 617-696-2004.

    Thank you.

    Brian

Despite the headlines, Senator Joyce’s gift is neither “lavish” nor does it appear to raise ethics concerns among any of the people interviewed by the Boston Globe. We all know that Senator Joyce is informed, careful, and detail-oriented. How thoughtful to highlight through a gift the internationally recognized businesses right in Joyce’s district. A pound of joe and some truly awesome shades–how totally cool is that! Perhaps the Globe reporter is just jealous. Thanks for all you do, Senator Joyce.
