Letter: new Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition kicks off first of a series of events

Letter from Erica Dunton of Milton Sustance Abuse Prevention Coalition

On behalf of the new Milton Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, I would like to tell you about who we are. This organization was formed last September and is made up of residents, parents, youth, and representatives from the schools, police, town officials and many others coming together to tackle the issues of alcohol and substance abuse, particularly among our youth in the town of Milton.

Please join with us for our first ever event. On January 29th, the students, faculty and staff at Pierce Middle School and Milton High School will wear the color red to raise awareness of alcohol and substance abuse prevention. We invite all of you to join us in wearing red on this day. This event is the kick off for many events and projects to come!
As we are raising awareness for substance abuse prevention on January 29th, a few students from the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group and their advisor, Stephanie Omobono, will be helping to “shatter the myths” about alcohol, marijuana and other drugs by visiting the Pierce Middle School during the lunches to host a mini trivia game. There will also be posters hung in the middle and high schools about substance abuse to educate students about the consequences of using and abusing substances and to promote health decision making.

Thank you in advance for joining us on January 29th to “shatter the myths” about alcohol and drugs and raise awareness for substance abuse prevention. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you all in the future. If you have any questions regarding this event or the coalition, please feel free to contact me via email at edunton@miltonps.org or Caroline Kinsella, Milton Health Director/ Public Health Nurse, via email at ckinsella@townofmilton.org.
