Beware! It’s coming! This Sunday marks the 16th running of the MFE’s Monster Dash and participants will be sporting T-shirts with a design by Pierce Middle School student Edward Enyedy.

The Monster Dash, organized and sponsored by the Milton Foundation for Education, began years ago as a fun run and has developed into something of a community festival. The event revolves around a 5K run/walk but includes much more. Last year there almost 550 runners registered and another 500 were on hand to enjoy the children’s fun run and science activities for kids with a DJ on hand to provide an upbeat soundtrack. Both kids and adults are encouraged to run in costumes (and do) – so be prepared to surrounded by super heroes, princesses, witches, and assorted characters.

The art competition has become a hallmark of the event. Edward’s design (see above) was chosen from 240 entries submitted in this year’s competition overseen by MFE member Lisa Viola. Congratulations Edward! And congratulations to the runners up: Lucy Asanza, Cunningham; Lucy Liberidis, Collicot; Sophia Manning, Tucker; Priya Shaw, Tucker; and Jackson White, Cunningham.

The Monster Dash is run in the memory of Sam Cichello, a Tucker student who died in a playground accident in 1999. The MFE organizes the event and  administers the funds, working closely with the Milton Public Schools and the Cichello family to enrich science education in the schools. You can learn more about the activities that were supported last year by this great event here.
