Interesting ! Think it is odd if not a failure of the BOS that as a member – allbeit the sole member – of the town’s Broadband Monitoring Committee – I was never notified by the Board of Selectmen of this upcoming hearing. As I have noted before the Selectmen have failied to appoint a full complement of other interested Milton residents to this board. The function of the Broadband Monitoring Committee as its name suggests is to oversee the operation of RCN and Comcast. Since my name is posted on the town’s website under this committee I am often contacted by cable subscribers regarding the operation of either RCN or Comcast. The most usual question I get is ‘ why are we keeping Verizon out of Milton..? ‘. We are not. This past spring I called Verizon’s regional cable office and was told by the regional manager that Verizon/FiOS has stopped all expansion in the greater Boston . I informed the Board of Selectmen of the Verizon/FiOS expansion hold and the need for them to appoint others to this watchdog committee. I never received a response from the Board of Selectmen. To the point of RCN’s performance in Milton those residents who are RCN subscribers have told me that RCN has greatly improved its product since its early days in Milton and is now on par with Comcast at a price point well below Comcast’s.
