Passing Over Passover 2014 – Jay Olin

How do I know Passover is real
if it isn’t “live” on the
six o’clock news
in HD and surround sound?

Lice, frogs, and locusts
up close in 3D,
preceded by a warning that
the material
may not be appropriate
for young children.

Microphones pushed in the faces of
The Simple Son,
Immature Son,
Wicked Son.
Only the Wise Son has the
foresight to request privacy
from the press.

Am I able to know how much
Manischewitz goes into the
Charoset
without watching the
Cooking Channel?
Will they show me how to break the
matzoh on YouTube?

Elijah will not bring peace through
special effects.

When I envision our Sedars,
I feel the welcoming warmth of our
extended family.
The faces of the living.
The souls of the deceased.
The tradition that brings us together with love and understanding

Happy Passover!
