St. Michael’s Parishioners Experience Homelessness Through Urban Outreach Program

Screen Shot 2014-03-26 at 8.24.35 AMOn Friday, March 7, members of St. Michael’s Confirmation Class traveled to the Cathedral Church of St. Paul to participate in Ecclesia Ministries’ “CityReach,” an overnight program of discovery and conversation about the causes and circumstances of unhoused people in the City of Boston. Led by Ecclesia Ministry staff who themselves are unhoused, City Reach helps young people remove barriers of misunderstanding and judgment that stand between unhoused and housed people through testimonials, a night-tour of Boston, street ministry, clothing and food distribution, and personal reflection and processing, all while building relationships with folks who currently live on the street. Seven confirmands and six adult chaperones participated from St Michael’s, along with other churches and denominations across Eastern Massachusetts and Maine.
