Letter from Tucker Principal Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai on Stay in Place order

February 7, 2014

Dear Families,

I am writing to inform you that this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. a stay in place order was put in place at Tucker School. This order was prompted by a written threat found on a wall. The Milton Police Department came to Tucker School to investigate alongside school personnel. The stay in place order was lifted at approximately 11:10 a.m. The investigation is ongoing at this time. However, I want you to know that at no time today did instruction stop for students. Additionally, no students were at risk at any time.

I will personally share the following message with each class today and remind our students to always share concerns they may have with their teachers, parents and me. Please feel free to reinforce this message at home with your child:

“Today at school, you may have heard the principal (Dr. McNeil-Girmai) say that there was a stay in place order. This meant that you were not allowed to go outside of your classroom. When this happens in schools it is to make sure that the building is safe and that all of the students and teachers can continue learning without being interrupted. At times, when this happens the police may be in the building to work with your principal.”

We appreciate the partnership we have with the Milton Police and their prompt response today. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai

Principal, Tucker School
