The Last Chapter of Milton Reads! 2012 closes with community celebration

Milton Reads! 2012 closed out its inaugural program last Thursday night with a comunity event that included readings, song, and a talk by US Attorney Carmen Ortiz. Mitlton Reads! selected To Kill a Mockingbird  as the selection for this one Book, one town initiative which engaged the community in a shared cultural experience: reading a book together.

Annie Davis, member of the Milton Reads! committee, served as the host for the event which included readings from the text, residents Jan Wallace and Mac D’Alessandro both sang solos, and U. Attorney Carmen Ortiz spoke and answered questions from the audience. The evening closed with a rousing performance from Joyful Voices of Inspiration a Boston based Gospel Choir. A reception was held afterwards.

The event was made possible in part by a generous grant from the Milton Library Foundation.

The 2 month long program consisted of book discussion groups, film screenings, and a dramatic reading performed by The Milton Players in collaboration with Milton High School Dramatics Society. Other organizations that provided support included Artspace Milton, the Milton Historical Society, the Milton Kiwanis Club, the First Parish Church, the Friends of the Library.

Following are a slide show of event and a brief video clip of Joyful Voices of Inspiration performing. Both are courtesy of Suzette Standring.
