Fontbonne’s Opening Liturgy marks the start the 2012 school year

News release from Fontbonne Academy

Fontbonne Academy in Milton officially opened this morning for the new school year, beginning with its traditional Opening Liturgy. Father Gerry McKeon, S.J. of Boston College High School celebrated the Mass, focusing the Liturgy on “loving God and neighbor without distinction.” Fontbonne is sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston whose charism, or mission, is to care for “the dear neighbor,” or anyone in need. As a result, the message of the Liturgy is one that is tightly woven throughout the Fontbonne community, creating a welcoming and respectful place to learn.

“We are thrilled to welcome all of our students back including the largest class of freshwomen in several years,” said Head of School, Mary Ellen Barnes. “We spent much of the summer preparing for today’s excitement and are looking forward to a wonderful school year.” Some noticeable summer updates to the Fontbonne facility include new whiteboards and colorful tiled floors in many of the classrooms, several new data servers, a newly paved parking lot in the back of the school, and new workout machines and high impact flooring in the Wellness Center.

Fontbonne’s enrollment for the incoming class of ninth graders has increased 32% since last year. Interest in the all-girls Catholic high school resulted in a cap on acceptances and a wait list of qualified young women. The first open house of the admissions season for 2013 is September 30 and interested families are encouraged to attend to learn more about Fontbonne Academy.
