Mary Riffe Hiss, a member of the Library Board of Trustees, announced Milton Reads! 2012 at a recent Board of Selectmen’s meeting. Milton Reads! is an initiative from the Milton Library, Friends and Foudation that engages the town in a community wide cultural activity – reading a book together. The book they have chosen is the timeless American classic, To Kill a Mockingbird.
The official kickoff for the program will take place at the Milton Public Library on September 15th. Books will be available for just $5. If you are interested in purchasing a copy please email miltonreads2012@gmail.com.
The Forbes House Museum, The Milton Players, he Milton Garden Club, and The Milton Interfaith Clergy Association are among organizations working on programming events. The Milton Times, The Kiwanis, Fuller Village, The Milton Historical Society, and The Milton Council on Aging.

It might be helpful to provide a suggested family member age range that this book is suitable for.
The book is widely taught in Grades 7 and up. While written in a simple style it does deal with some adult plot lines, a black man unjustly accused of a sexual crime. You can find a more in depth description here. We are consulting with the Milton children’s librarians on books that would be suitable for younger children that deal with similar themes.
In the meantime here are a couple of suggestions: The Watsons go to Birmingham by Christopher Curtis(Gr 3 – 6), When Marion Sang (Gr K – 5).
Thanks for your interest. We are developing a web site that will include information, resources and calenar which you can find here.
