Milton has a Mayor! Driscoll wins!

by Frank Schroth
A lot happened in a short amount of time at last night’s Town Meeting. Among other things, Milton “elected” a mayor. The election was bought, but that was the point! And hizonner is Phil Driscoll!

The “Mayor of Milton” campaign was a fund raising effort organized by Brian Kelley and the 350th committee to support various activities and programs that are taking place throughout the year to commemorate the event. The candidates for mayor were Phil Driscoll, Jayne Goode, and Mike Lynch. Good sports all, who campaigned mightily to win the post. It is just that one campaigned a bit more mightily. Phil Driscoll proved the most adept and stuffing the coffers at a buck a vote. The campaigns together raised ~$5000 in support of town’s ongoing festivities.

Now what? Well, if he had his druthers, Phil would rename Canton Avenue Driscoll Avenue. Evidently, the powers vested in him by this august political position do not extend quite that far. But he will be the guest of honor and presiding over the 350th parade to take place June 9th. Thanks go to all the candidates and CONGRATULATIONS PHIL!
