Jazz Trio to perform “American Songbook Beyond at Library

News release from Milton Public Library

On Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2 PM, the Milton Public Library offers up the last concert in their spring series by hosting the acoustic trio known as “Too Human.” The band is Ellen Bruno, a talented vocalist, and her husband Roger Bruno, percussionist. The trio is then completed by an upright bass player, and their repertoire follows primarily jazz standards for a program they call A Celebration of Song: The American Songbook and Beyond.

Ellen and Roger have both been involved in music from a young age and although they hail from New York, they eventually moved to work as songwriters in Los Angeles. The two moved back to New England soon after, but not before writing songs covered by artists such as Cher, Pat Benetar, Anne Murray, Nancy Wilson, `and Teddy Pendergrass. They also penned songs heard on TV shows including Fame, General Hospital, and As the World Turns. Too Human brings a fresh interpretation to classic songs, citing Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell, and Carole King as some of their influences, and they have opened concerts for Livingston Taylor, Les Sampou, Janis Ian and Kenny Rankin, just to name a few.

Their reviewers say: “What drives their work is their on-stage chemistry. High quality musicianship with humor and passion, totally in sync with each other, they create a strong and intimate atmosphere.” “Too Human offers up some of the best darned songs you have ever heard, played with a depth of soul you rarely hear.” This program will be held in the Keys Community Room (lower level) of the library, which is located at 476 Canton Avenue. It is free and sponsored by The Friends of the MPL. For more information, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757.
