Meeting tonight to discuss Haitian relief effort

I ask everyone to pray for those in Haiti and those of us here.  All of us and all the great friends of Haiti we have in Massachusetts are affected by these horrible events.

For those of us with family and friends in Haiti- all of us are understandably upset- but we need to stay calm.  This is going to be a monumental rebuilding effort and the U.S. can and should take the lead.  This is the time to step up- especially Haitian Americans- and respond to a great human tragedy.  We have to do it earnestly and quickly, but it’s also important that our response be well-planned and carried out. Milton School Committee member calls for colleague to step down after drunken-driving arrest

In their first public discussion since a fellow member admitted that there were sufficient facts to find him guilty of drunken driving, members of the Milton School Committee agreed that the arrest was a “teaching moment,” but they clashed over what the next step should be.

During the committee’s meeting Tuesday night, member Mary Kelly called on Christopher Huban to resign. It was she who initiated the discussion of Huban’s New Year’s Day arrest. (Read the full story here.)

Milton leader Rabbi Nathan Korff dies

Rabbi Nathan Korff, the longtime leader of Congregation B’nai Jacob on Blue Hills Parkway in Milton, died Monday. He was 91.

Rabbi Korff served the Jewish communities in Milton and Boston for nearly 60 years, and for decades was the spiritual leader of the Milton synagogue. (Read the full story here.)
