Milton Crew & Rugby: opportunities to be seized

Commentary by Frank Schroth

Parents naturally seek to share their passions with their children. And so it happened that not one but two groups of parents and interested residents appeared before the school committee with plans to start up new sports: crew and rugby. While some may have found this exhilarating news, none of them was on the school committee. That elected body sat in silence with one exception, Mary Kelly, who adhered to what is becoming her standard “Just say no” approach.

Granite Links: A hole-in-one for ingratitude

Editorial from Boston.com – Your Town Milton

Few cases of NIMBYism are less worthy of accommodation than that of the Granite Links Golf Club at Quarry Hills in Quincy and Milton. Need for answers is urgent

from The Milton View

Why do the Ulin rink discussions cover the same ground over and over again, beginning to resemble a send up of the movie Ground Hog Day? Why, after 6 months, must we depend on Senator Brian Joyce to get us a fifth deadline extension to June 30th?(Read the full commentary here.)

Time to stop the madness on elderly driver safety

Commentary by Frank Schroth

Last Saturday an elderly driver in Cambridge drove his car into a bus stop. Four people including a 4 yr old were inside the shelter. Fortunately, the shelter acted as a shield so when the driver, who thought he was stepping on his brake stepped on the gas and drove into them, they didn’t die.

Media explosion in Milton

Commentary by Frank Schroth

What is going on around here? Who knew Milton would become the media capital of the south shore?

Once upon a time there was the Milton Record-Transcript and then in the late 80’s or so, The Milton Times started up. And the Times is and has served as the paper of record for Milton. Then the internet happened, and it has finally come to Milton.

Phil Matthews of Milton View discusses the current Selectman’s campaign and the Town Poor Farm in his most recent article, “Campaign Politics.”

from The Milton View

From the day Robert Sweeney announced his intention to run against Kathy Fagan for Selectman, there was a suspicion among many that Mr. Sweeney was motivated primarily by the future of the Governor Stoughton land that abuts his neighborhood. (Read the full commentary here.)
