Meeting : Planning Board

The Milton Planning Board will be meeting in the Blute Conference Room at Town Hall on October 9th at 6:30 pm. The agenda includes but is not limited to continuing the hearing on 90 Reedsdale Road (Milton Womans Club) and a review of the Henry House site plan. “Piano Celebration” at the Milton Public Library

The Milton Public Library will host local musicians in a free concert called “Piano Celebration” on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2 PM. Since the library recently acquired a lovely Sohmer piano made possible by the Milton Library Foundation, several wonderful local performers will gather to help christen the new addition.

Celebrate Milton Reads 2013! Closing Chapter

Milton Reads invites you to join them for a fun afternoon and to celebrate the closing chapter to this year’s program with food, fun, and prizes!

Films, book chats, a Gardner Museum tour, a visit by the lead investigator, and even an evening of trivia, were all part of the Milton Reads 2013 program, when Milton’s readers joined together to read The Gardner Heist, by Ulrich Boser.

Animal League Craft Fair

Craft Fair to benefit the Milton Animal League Sunday October 6 from 10 am to 3 PM at Cunningham Hall. Many professional crafters plus a great raffle!

Free pumpkin painting at Farmers’ Market

The Milton Farmers’ Market will feature Pumpkin Painting-free for 12 and under – this Thursday (October 3) and next  October 10 from  1 to 6 PM at the Milton Farmers’ Market. And there are bike coupons too for those arriving on bike wearing a helmet. This is in addition to the variety of fresh produces, baked goods, and fish.

Swing for Sports Golf & Tennis Tournament

The Milton High School Boosters annual golf and tennis tournament will take place at the Wollaston Golf Club on Monday, October 21st. This is the Boosters biggest fundraising event of the year that raised almost $30,000 last year. All proceeds go directly to the athletes of Milton High School. The golf outing will feature prizes for many holes, including a Hole in One prize. Entry fees include a box lunch, golf greens fees and cart or tennis fee, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the closing reception.

Friends of the Blue Hills Kicks Off 35th Year with Annual Celebration

In 2014, Friends of the Blue Hills will celebrate its 35th year and in honor of this milestone, the organization is launching a yearlong series of events commencing with their Annual Celebration on Thursday, October 10, from 7-9 p.m. at Fuller Village. Milton resident Jack Murray, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, will be the keynote speaker. Tickets for the event are $35 if purchased by October 4 and $40 at the door.  Tickets are available on the website www.FriendsoftheBlueHills.org/celebrate .

Haunted Lighthouses of New England, Milton Public Library

Lighthouses are picturesque icons, reminders of New England’s rich maritime history, but they also have a dark side.  Jeremy D’Entremont has taken part in lighthouse investigations by paranormal research teams. On Sunday, October 20th at 2 pm in the Keys Room (lower level) of the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue, this “open minded skeptic” will reveal macabre tales of New England’s coastal beacons,

MHS “Cans for Cats” bottle and can drive, and a car wash too!

The next Milton High School Boosters “Cans for Cats” can & bottle fundraising drive will be held on Saturday, October 5th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Milton High School. The girls and boys basketball teams will be at the front entrance of the high school, 25 Gile Road, to collect your 5 cent cans and bottles to redeem them for cash.

Reminder: R&B band Part-Tme Lovers to perform at the library

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2 PM, the Milton Public Library will host the dynamic blues and R&B band called “Part-Time Lovers” in a free one-hour concert held in the Keys Community Room (lower level).  Named “Best Blues Band in Boston” by Boston Blues Society in 2000, the group is led by ace drummer Brian Kelley and includes the talented Berklee College of Music professor Craig Hlady on guitar, fellow faculty member Dave Clark on bass, and the always charismatic and entertaining Steve Matthews on vocals.
